The Hookman

THE HOOKMAN

I don't know if your parents have ever told you this story but basically it's a warning...

An urban legend that began circulating widely in the 1950s. There are many variations, but the basic story is the same.
One night a boy and his date drove to a secluded area called lovers lane where him's and his date started having a late  make out session.
While there, they hear a report of a murderer who has escaped form a nearby insane asylum, the newscaster says everyone should be on the look out for this crazy man, who has a hook in place of his right hand.
The boys date becomes restless and frightened after she hears scratches and other noises coming from outside of the car.  she than asks him too drive her home after being to freaked out to stay there any longer.
The boy agrees frustrated with himself and his date they drive home once they are out of the car the girl screams seeing the outside of the car. When her date exits the car as well, he sees a bloody detached hook embedded in the roof of the car  and realizes that the Hook Man would have scratched through to the interior if the car had they stayed at Lover's Lane any longer.
The scenario to this urban legend is this:
The girls goes home and goes to her window to say goodbye however she does not see her her date anywhere. While she is looking down she sees a bloody hook on the handle of her front door and her date gone.
The Boyfriend's Death urban legend dates from the 1960s and has some similarities but many differences from The Hook. Similarities include both of the stories are based on the location of Lovers lane and also the scratching noises.
The boyfriends death:
the boy exits the car while the girl stays in the car all night, she hears scratching sounds on the roof of the car, and when she is rescued in the morning by the authorities she sees her dead boyfriend hanging upside-down from a tree. It is his fingernails that have been making the scratching sounds.
There are stories which are similar to these especially the UK version which doesn't include the hookman. Where an escaped asylum man decapitates the date/boyfriend of the girl and sits on top of there car and bounces the head of the boyfriend/date on the roof untill morning comes.
Pretty freaky eh...mainly I think this urban legend is a warning for people who go out alone to be careful. Also the fact that telling someone from a young age this story will help them remeber how important it is not to do somthing with someone else unless there absolutely sure it's what they want.
Thanks for reading I hope you enjoy this post!
